Here's how the breeder is protected from a U-turn...
In the pushing lane and the Jourdain Premium half-corral

‘All too often we see farmers handling and moving cattle with just a stick or a piece of string’.

Often out of habit and lack of time. ‘The risks are real’. As Dominique Jourdain* explains: ‘Many of us have already experienced that dangerous moment when a cattle suddenly turns back’. On a day-to-day basis, without precautions, the risk is just as great for the farmer as it is for employees, trainees and young people who lend a hand, not forgetting the driver of the truck carrying the animals... In response to this, the new Jourdain Premium range of restraint systems was presented at the Sommet de l'Élevage.

Quick-opening manholes. Dominique Jourdain points out that the barriers have the Autolock double handle. ‘It allows you to open both locks with a single movement’.

Here are the safeguards to note:

• The pushing corridor.
5.60 m** x 3 m (inside), for around twenty animals. Seen from above, the crosspieces form Saint Andrew's crosses. ‘The pushing force of the animals on the barrier is taken up by the posts. The push barrier carriage is guided by 8 rollers. Anti-return pawls are fitted approximately every 40 cm. Safety is ensured in both directions. The sheet-metal barriers are perforated at the top, ‘to give visibility’, without an animal being able to get its head stuck in. Similarly, the days are tightened to prevent a leg getting stuck.

• The half-corral.
5.90 m in diameter. It leads to the holding corridor. It can open towards the loading bay or an exit. ‘The lorry driver can load the cattle alone and in safety’. Inside, the push barrier is secured by anti-return devices at regular intervals in both directions.

• The restraint corridor (vaccination, blood sampling, weighing, etc.).
It can accommodate a Marechalle restraint cage and the Jourdain 3-way sorting door.
